Rome, 15 January 2026 – Stellantis’ accession to the Italian Institute of Artificial Intelligence (AI4I) and to the Chips-IT Foundation has been formalised at Palazzo Piacentini, in the presence of the Minister of Enterprises and Made in Italy, Senator Adolfo Urso.
“The entry of Stellantis into AI4I and the Chips-IT Foundation strengthens the competitiveness of the production system and promotes technological innovation in the automotive sector. This is a clear signal, as strengthening the country’s capabilities in artificial intelligence and semiconductors is a priority for industrial policy. The virtuous collaboration between the public and private sectors thus becomes a strategic lever to accelerate research and development and to consolidate Italian and European technological sovereignty,” said Minister Urso.
The event was attended by Fabio Pammolli, President of AI4I; Emanuele Cappellano, Chief Operating Officer of Stellantis for Enlarged Europe and European Brands; Alberto Sangiovanni-Vincentelli, President of the Chips-IT Foundation; and Guglielmo Caviasso, Director of Stellantis’ CRF Research Centre.
The agreement forms part of the Action Plan for Italy agreed on 17 December 2024 between Stellantis and the Ministry of Enterprises and Made in Italy, following the dedicated roundtable, and represents a further step in public–private cooperation in research and technological development.
“AI4I,” said Fabio Pammolli, “positions itself as a national and international hub for research, innovation and technology transfer, capable of attracting young talents and scientific leaders, developing AI tools and services for companies, supporting the creation of new entrepreneurial initiatives, and contributing to Italian and European technological sovereignty.”
“The synergy between industry, universities and research centres is essential to building a solid and competitive national innovation ecosystem, based on infrastructure, human capital and advanced research. This is why, together with the Ministry, we decided to make our accession to highly qualified research organisations such as AI4I and Chips-IT an integral part of our commitments to Italy,” said Cappellano, adding that “through collaboration with AI4I and Chips-IT we will further strengthen Stellantis’ leadership in technological innovation and better leverage the expertise of Italy’s scientific and productive community.”
“The Chips-IT Foundation aims to strengthen the position of Italy and Europe in a sector that is now fundamental to digital transformation and industrial competitiveness. We are growing rapidly: today we have more than forty employees and expect to reach around one hundred by the end of 2026. Three research lines are currently active, with two more to be launched in the coming months, all focused on concrete applications ranging from telecommunications to energy production, from biomedicine to radar systems,” said Sangiovanni-Vincentelli.
